Merger Photo Shoot

Show and Tell

I love this photo because you can see all of these people bonding over one thing; food. I love how the chef is engaged with the group as a whole and you can just see people for what seems like miles and miles.

I chose this video because although I didn't know the austin high students, a lot of my friends at austin high were affected by this and even some of the students here at bowie who had gone to small with alyssa. I hope that the families and friends of these students heal quickly and I'm glad to hear the community is celebrating their lives in a positive way.

Contest Preview

This photo appears to be powerful to me because of the look on the dogs face. The dog looks sad and i think that the black and white filter on the photo makes all of the lights and darks of the dogs fur pop more. I love how there is a black background and how the dogs fur is a light color making it seem very contrasting as a whole.

I think this photo is powerful because of the lighting. I love how the sun comes into the photo and makes the girls hair, umbrella, background, and the girls dress light up while still leaving some of the photo dark and really brining in good contrast and exposure.

This photo is powerful because it makes me want to learn more about the story behind it. In the photo you see a broken window and a teenage boy standing next to it with clouds behind him. I love the lighting! It is so dark and mysterious looking while still leaving enough light to make the windows and boys face light up with subtle lighting.

Sports/Action

PART 1: PORTFOLIOS
1. Travis Haughton
Some problems with Travis's pictures is that the judges do not like how some of the photos have back of the head shots, they do not like how some of the mergers in the photos make it seem like things are growing out of their heads, and they do not like how tight the frames are.
The judges like how Travis captured his sports action photos, keeping them realistic and true to the moment. They love how Travis had captured the sweet moments in his photo story.
I think that Travis did a really good job with making sure his lighting was great in all of his photos, but I agree with the judges in them saying that many of the photos had frames that were a little too tight.

2. The judges liked how everyone in the picture was occupied and included a lot of motion in the picture. I think that one of the strengths in this photo was really how there was a lot of motion in the picture and kept your eye moving. I think a weakness is that the angle isn't as good as I think it could have been.

3. The judges looked at every photo and then chose based off of what photos seemed most powerful to them. The judges also looked for the photos that weren't too overly edited and followed the story that the photographer was trying to convey.

PART 2: INDIVIDUAL IMAGES
1. I agree with the judges on the third photo. I think that the photo should have been zoomed in more to make the photo look more intriguing and that the photographer should have waited till the head made contact with the actual wave.

2. I love the first photo and how it makes the rest of the surroundings except the sled blurred making it seem lie your going really fast. I don't agree with how the judges think that the photo is framed "ok" because I think that if you had framed it any differently the photo would not be as intriguing.

Found Objects Homework

this photo was taken while I was at Epcot of the Cheerleading Worlds last week. Loved how there was a storm/sunset coming in over the lake!!

This photo was taken in January when I was in New Mexico on a family ski trip. We had gotten into the car to go to the resort and tiny little snowflakes had frozen over the windshield over night when another snow storm came through!

Final Exam Assignment Pt.1

1. I read tutorials on how to operate iMovie. Each website explained how to import files and videos from your archive, to playing the movie that you create on iMovie. The tutorials also explained editing techniques.

2. I already knew how to title my videos and how to add my clips into iMovie.

3. I did not know how to trim the clips or how to add the special effects iMovie offers.

4. I feel concerned that my video will not come together as a story.

5. I feel confident that I will be able to come up with a good story line and good ideas for the angles and camera tricks to complete the assignment well.

6. I think I will shoot my friends/team mates and I on May 23rd, 2014. On the 23rd of every month my friends and I wear our "RIP Drake"shirts and with this 23rd marking one year since Drake's passing, I think I want to shoot my friends/team mates walking down the hallway or sitting together at lunch, and just being themselves with the remembrance of Drake proudly shown on their shirts. Even though this is only one day out of the whole year, our shirts represent the imprint he has left on us. With our shirts on or not, we always remember Drake's legacy and the remembrance of his life.

The Big Day

In the volkswagen commercial, we see a boy dressed up in a tux and a bride awaiting someones arrival. The boy tries really hard to get there on time and as time passes we see the bride becoming more and more impatient. In the last scene, the boy walks into the church late to find the bride marrying and him not there to see it.

WHO: bride and groom, and young man
WHAT: wedding ceremony
WHEN: during a ceremony
WHERE: church
WHY: the young man loves the bride
HOW: runs into the chapel to confess it

In the first scene, we see a young man driving in the country side in gloomy and rainy weather. As he gets closer to his destination he runs into interferences with a slow trailer, a train, traffic light (etc.) The longer he takes the longer the bride at the church in the city becomes impatient. Once the boy arrives to the church the wedding has already started. The boy runs into the church to what seems like he is wanting to confess his love for the bride, but is too late as she marries another man.

     4. Private
     5. No
     6. It was used as a vacation home
     7. This building really intrigued me on how the design of the place was. The house looked very                            similar to the flinstones cartoon home. When building, the family wanted to make the house look like the flinstones home.

     2. 2000
     3. St Blazey, Cornwall, UK
     4. Open to the public
     5. No
     6. Greenhouse Purposes
     7. I really wanted to look into this building because of the design and purpose behind it. The greenhouse is shaped sort of into a honeycomb shape that a bee would use.      1.  Charles Deaton
     2. 1963
     3. Golden, Colorado

Nut Graf

A Nut graf explains why the reader should be reading your article. It explains what is in store in the article, why they should read it, and hooks them in to want to hear more. The nut graf is slang that editorial staff uses to decribe this type of sentence.
Without a nut graf, the reader is simply lost in why they would want to read the article. It allows the reader to grasp a better concept on what the story is really about. The nut graf determines if the article is actually worth reading from the readers point of view.

Student of the Month Story

Who- Amber
What- Student of the month
Where- Bowie High School
When- Student of the month, February
Why- Encourage students to behave better by rewarding them with "Student of the Month"
How- Good behavior in class, good grades, respectful

Teachers at Bowie High school have found that when presented with an award, in this case "student of the month," grades had become higher and focus in class had excelled through the roof. Amber Lotz, student at Bowie high school, won because of her good behavior in class, good grades, and respectfulness.

How did Lotz do it? Well we asked her for some tips that could help you to become Student of the Month at your school next!

When it comes to grades and studying for big tests Lotz said, "make flashcards!" Flashcards are a great way for you to remember information and you can always make a fun game out of them. Flashcards are just one way that Lotz keeps up with those big tests.

Good grades and attendance are very important when applying for colleges in the future. Lotz has been complimented many times on her good behavior in class, but specifically by her chemistry teacher, Ms. Sanders. "Ambers great behavior in class really stood out to me and her grades were really reflected upon that," said Ms. Sanders when asked about how she nominated Lotz for Student of the Month.

Teachers at Bowie High School came up with the idea of "Student of the Month" in a meeting coming back from the winter break. "We wanted the students to feel as though their good behaviors in class, good grades, and attendance would award them with more then a good reputation. We wanted to motivate them to do better and have a good understanding of how if you put the hard work in, you will see the progress and success you were hoping for," explained Mr. Kane, principal at Bowie High School.

Among winning student of the month, Lotz is also in Hospitality, Photojournalism and Dance at Bowie. With a busy schedule Lotz still overcame all of the hectic high school responsibilities and was nominated Student of the Month.
